Different drop weight media were used to investigate single particle impact breakage characteristics of a bed of silica sand particles. This is done using different mass of silica bed and drop heights. The attainable Region technique, an analysis tool is used to optimise the amount of required size class. Results demonstrate that spherical drop weight leads to maximum amount of intermediate size class whilst the cubes provide a much courser product. It can be established that, the drop weight method coupled with the AR technique provides beneficial and practical way of evaluating the optimal impact breakage for size reduction processes.
