(396a) Developing Spreadsheet Skills Using an Interactive Material and Energy Balances Textbook

Spreadsheets are a central problem-solving tool for chemical engineers. Interactive textbooks provide an opportunity to introduce students to spreadsheets. An interactive textbook from zyBooks for a material and energy balance course incorporates over 80 animations, 170 automatically graded homework problems, 200 homework/example problems, and 900 clicks to read the entire book. While screenshots of the different features will be included, interactive material on using spreadsheets will be highlighted. Introductory content on spreadsheets, formulas, functions, and charting is applied in later sections solving material and energy balance problems. For example, completing repetitive heat capacity and enthalpy calculations in a spreadsheet will be introduced using animations and immediately applied through interactive questions and machine-graded problems.
