From his undergraduate diploma research on fuels to his present interests in statistical modeling from data, monitoring, diagnosis and control, Christos Georgakis academic work has spanned a multitude of subjects including among others; reaction engineering, optimization and control of batch processes, interaction of process design and control, plant-wide control, and nonlinear control of chemical reactors. In all these endeavors he has contributed pivotal ideas that have led to patented control systems for industrial practice, novel educational programs, and forward looking conferences in process systems engineering. In this presentation I will try to give an overarching view of his 40-year activity and account for his many contributions and impact to our profession.
