(486c) Making Solids Flow in Hoppers Using Passive Activation and Diamondback Hoppers

The secrets of Dr. Jerry R. Johanson’s development of the famous Archbreaking Diamondback (ABD) hopper are revealed in this paper. Dr. Johanson combined his experiences during his doctoral studies at U of Utah with industry lessons and a very inventive mind to evolve the concept of ‘passive activation’ from first principles. The ABD is the direct result of passive activation. The paper will report how the ABD has revolutionized powder flow with applications and anecdotes about working with Dr. Johanson.
