Ho, T. - Presenter, Lamar University
This presentation is especially prepared to celebrate Prof. Shigekatsu Mori’s career long accomplishments in fluidization and fluid-particle systems. In this presentation, selected topics in fluidization fundamentals, including the minimum fluidization velocity and the bubbling bed properties as well as its modeling options in a gas-solid fluidized bed will be reviewed. The presentation will also cover several selected fluidized bed applications in the energy and environmental areas, including a fluidized bed technology which uses various sorbents to capture heavy metals at high temperatures during coal combustion or waste incineration. Finally, a potential fluidized bed technology which uses microwave energy to convert nanoparticle-embedded plastic waste into activated carbon capable of responding to magnetic field will also be introduced.
