(59d) Polydopamine Stabilized Fluorescent Nanozinc Oixde Reinforced Epoxy Nanocomposites Towards UV Shielding

Epoxy based nanocomposites are widely used in the applications including aerospace, automobile, electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding, and flexible electronics. Zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles, as an inorganic ultraviolet (UV) absorber, have attracted increasing interests in the applications of UV lasers, light-emitting diodes (LED), and field-emission devices. The incorporation of ZnO nanoparticles into epoxy matrix can be employed in the standard LED technology which can significantly improve the UV light resistance via UV light shielding. However, the nanosized ZnO particles are tend to agglomerate since the crystal inorganic ZnO nanoparticles possess the organophobic surface, which would cause the severely phase separation and further damage the mechanical property of epoxy.In this work, the nano polydopamine (PDA) as the coulping agent for ZnO nanoparticles and epoxy have been prepared. The interaction between PDA and epoxy resin is explored. The enhanced tensile strength of the cured epoxy nanocomposites filled with the PDA functionalized ZnO nanoparticles(t-ZnO) is obtained. The results showed thatthe enhanced mechanical properties show an increased interfacial interaction between t-ZnO and epoxy matrix after surface modification by the nano PDA. The introduction of PDA layer has no obvious effect on the fluorescent property of ZnO.
