Mushrooms have been used since centuries as food and medicine in many ancient cultures and become one of the main components of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). They produce many bioactive compounds with high therapeutic values. Cordyceps militaris is well known for production of immunomodulators and anticancer active compounds of different molecular weights. Of these compounds, Cordycepin [CAS#73-03-0] (3’-deoxyadenosine) is nucleoside derivative which exhibited significant activity as anticancer and antitumor in both in vitro and in vivo studies. In this work, complete industrial platform was developed for the production of this bioactive molecule. This start with optimization of growth medium and cultivation conditions to enhance the production of codycepin in both small scale cultivation vessel. After this step, cultivations were conducted in stirred tank bioreactor for the optimization of bioprocessing parameters during cultivation in batch and fed-batch mode. Furthermore, optimization of downstream process using solvent extraction system was carried out for final cordycepin separation in pure form.
