Davis, J. - Presenter, DOE Clean Energy Smart Manufacturing Innovation Institute (CESMII)
CESMII’s vision is that SM becomes so pervasive that by 2030, it is the next-generation way of doing manufacturing. Currently, both process-based and fabrication-based manufacturing are constrained by market and operational compartmentalization, slow change, vendor lock-in, and innovation by and for a few. By developing and accelerating broad-based innovations that are accessible by all, CESMII can be the driving force for moving the industry and market into a new, sustainable business model. In the broadest sense, CESMII’s end game is not about just cutting manufacturing costs or reducing energy consumption. Rather, the Institute is focused on enhancing U.S. manufacturing productivity by making better use of energy, materials, facilities, and workforce resources, which will improve the global competitiveness and reinvestment of U.S. manufacturing.
