In the forestry, agriculture and bioproduct sectors, lignin is an important raw material that shows immense potential in novel value-added industrial applications. Pulp and paper industries as well as emerging lingo-cellulosic ethanol industries with saturation would produce approximately 150 million tons of lignin annually. Much of the lignin is being burnt for power. Lignin is an aromatic macromolecule and can be used in replacing petroleum in biobased product developments. The value-added applications of lignin for industrial uses are wave of the future. This session encourages high quality papers relating to value-added uses of lignin in emerging bio-chemicals, bio-based materials including biobased composite materials, bio-adhesives, biobased thermoset resins, bio-surfactants, with added advantage of eco-friendliness, sustainability as well as in promoting the low-carbon economy.
