(186f) Process Design Quality for the Success of Industrial R&D at SABIC

Process systems engineering plays a key role in the industrial R&D at SABIC. Good process design work is critical, as it is the bridge connecting lab experimental results with the final economics of the entire technology. Rules and guidelines were defined from detailed process simulation to develop a high level road map of plant design to ensure a high design quality. Optimization and statistical analysis were applied in the Process Design work, which not only improved the design quality, but also revealed bottlenecks for technology development.

Two examples will be given for the demonstration of Process Design Quality at SABIC. One is to ensure data quality by using statistical analysis, and the other one is an example about a technology optimization from the systems point of view.
