The inaugural brewing competition at AIChE came at an interesting time for the Northwest Arkansas community, for not only was there local interest in the chemical engineering program to demonstrate skills associated with beer manufacturing, at the same time general interest prompted the University of Arkansas to develop and deliver a certificate program to serve this growing market. This presentation will begin with a synopsis of the experience our student team had in an environment with little infrastructure, and end with the plans to offer “Brewing and Distilling” based on the desire to provide this certificate to people interested in the craft beer industry that has exploded in our area.
