The Clean Energy Smart Manufacturing Innovation Institute (CESMII), established by the US Department of Energy, is part of a network of institutes under the Manufacturing USA Initiative with a goal to secure the future of manufacturing in the U.S. through innovation, collaboration and education. CESMII’s mission is to radically democratize and accelerate the development and adoption of Smart Manufacturing (SM) technologies (sensing, control, data analytics, predictive modeling and platforms) to become the driving, sustainable engine that delivers energy efficiency and real-time business improvements in U.S. manufacturing. CESMII integrated strategies to achieve this mission include business practice innovation, enabling technologies, workforce development and a collaborative Smart Manufacturing Platform™ for industrial applications. Haresh Malkani, Chief Technology Officer – CESMII, will provide an overview of the institute, its technology focus areas and recent progress.
