Conventional manufacturing of energetic materials is dominated by the use of batch and semi-batch reactors. These methods offer flexibility at the cost of safety, reproducibility and potentially higher cost products. Continuous processing offers superior safety, ease of scale-up, lower cost and access to new materials. This presentation will discuss the use of process analytical technology (PAT) to interrogate reaction processes applied to energetic materials. The motivation is to assess their amenability toward continuous processing methods.
