(289b) Examples of Model Informed Drug Development in Drug Design and Delivery

Authors

Modeling and simulation in the pharmaceutical industry is getting more diverse and influencing more phases of drug development. In this talk examples of the impact of modeling in various phases of drug development will be shown. A metric for understanding the properties of a target, a monoclonal antibody and the disease which conveys important insights for dose and regimen will be presented. This has been very useful in explaining to research scientists the interplay between target and drug and the effect of rug concentration on target suppression.

Another important part of drug development is targeting a specific organ. Finite element based modeling of organ function and drug delivery have helped understand and influence development of drugs targeted to specific organs. Examples of inhaled drug development and drug delivery for spinal injury will be shown.
