Current growing demands in renewable materials have driven a new wave of technology development for processing of cellulosic fibers, targeting a broader range of applications far beyond the traditional paper and packaging material industries. In particular, surface affinity fabrication with engineered biomolecules and nanostructures have been showing promising in developing functional materials for selective absorbents, composites and electrochemical active materials. This talk will review recent advances in fabrication of cellulosic fibers for uses as functional materials.
