Hydrodynamic cavitation (HC) has recently been reported as a new promising pretreatment technology for lignocellulosic substrates with an added advantage of simplicity and easy scalability. On the other hand, oxidative pretreatment is another pretreatment which require a long process time and high dose of chemicals for this process to be declared as an efficient one. Therefore, In this work HC was employed to improve the potassium persulfate/hydrogen peroxide-alkaline medium pretreatment. At the optimum pretreatment conditions, about 32 g/L and 16 g/L of glucose and xylose were achieved in the enzymatic hydrolysis process with 10% of solid/liquid ratio using the SCB pretreated under the following conditions: 1% of H2O2, 0.2 of NaOH and 25 mmol of K2S2O8, 10 min, 70 â°C and 3bar of inlet pressure. Our initial result is quite promising as compared with the previous ones using alkaline hydrogen peroxide assisted by HC for sugarcane bagasse.
