(443b) Review of the Different Type of Flow Elements and Technologies Suitable for Demo Scale Plants, Pilot Plants, and R&D Equipment with Installed Cost Comparison

Authors

The objective of this presentation is to review the various type of flow elements and the feasibility for small scale modular plants, pilot plants and laboratory units. As a manufacturer of modular pilot plants, Zeton has been involved in a wide variety of pilot plant design and construction, and has first-hand experience with the advantages and disadvantages of selecting different type of flow elements for pilot plants, demo-scale plants and research units. Often the uniqueness of small line sizes in tubing and piping are not carefully considered when deciding on the correct technology and suitability. Typical technologies that can be used in well-known, well characterized processes are not always suitable with new processes. Factors such as cost, space minimization, and pilot plant life are often not considered at the same time. This paper will review several flow technologies with examples comparing cost and space differences where practical small scale modular plant and pilot plant design practices have been utilized in meeting process objectives.
