(479h) Adapting the COPE (Clarity, Organization, Precision, and Economy) Framework As a Writing Guide and Assessment Framework

The COPE (Clarity, Organization, Precision, and Economy) framework by David Adams is a fourteen point checklist for effective writing. Initially tested within the communications workshops for a Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) site, the COPE framework has been adapted as both an assessment tool and a manual to provide pointed feedback to student writing. A summary of the fourteen points will be presented along with examples of feedback and assessment procedures.
