(618f) Understanding the Reactivity of Transition-Metal Oxides for Electrochemical Catalysis

Bajdich, M. - Presenter, SLAC STANFORD
In my talk, I will single out transition metal-oxides and their derivatives as the most important materials for the electrochemical Oxygen Evolution and Oxygen Reduction Reactions (OER/ORR). I will discuss our recent efforts to establish OER/ORR reactivity trends across the first-row transition-metal-oxides and the effects of support, metal-doping and Li-intercalation. The application of transition-metal chalcogenides and their oxidation for highly active ORR catalysis will also be highlighted. Both, the experimental and theoretical challenges remain in identification of active phases and their active sites, and the mechanism under reaction conditions. I will also discuss special applications of metal-oxides for high temperature CO2 reduction on ceria surfaces and for CO hydrogenation on ultra-thin TiO nano-stripes.
