(103e) Methanol – a Practical Transportation Fuel for Today and Tomorrow

Authors

Navin, L. - Presenter, Methanol Institute
Dolan, G., Methanol Institute
The presentation will discuss developing applications of methanol as clean transportation fuel produced from natural gas or coal, and increasingly from renewable resources including captured CO2 and renewable electricity. Out of ~80 million metric tons of methanol sold globally in 2018, energy and fuel uses represent 40% of total demand. Use of methanol as vehicle fuel is rapidly expanding in China and being tested in the EU and other parts of the world. Methanol applications in high-octane blending with gasoline; as rapidly expanding clean burning marine fuel; and in range expanding applications for fuel cell cars will be discussed.
