Subcritical aqueous phase oxidation of the waste generated from the alkaline pretreatment of lignocellulosic biomass (LCB) was performed in a batch reactor in the presence and absence of homogeneous and heterogeneous catalytic material. The aqueous stream obtained after the oxidation step was analyzed by TOC analyzer, HPLC, GC-MS. Concentrations of C1-C3 carboxylic acids were quantified using HPLC whereas organic intermediates were analyzed by GC-MS using appropriate calibration methods. Results obtained with reduction in TOC, concentration of C1-C3 acids and identification of the intermediates will be presented.
