An ad-hoc committee of the National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine (http://nas-sites.org/dels/studies/separations/) is concluding a consensus study on developing a research agenda for the next era of separation science. The committee included expertise from academia, National Laboratories and the private sector. As part of its statement of task, the committee was to “Identify the educational and human resource needs (including cross-sections of academia and industry) to enable advances in separations science.” This presentation will report on the needs that were identified, as relevant to chemical engineering separations curricula. Included in the presentation will be results of supplemental survey on Separations Science that was developed and conducted by Professor David L. Silverstein and Professor Margot A. Vigeant for the AIChE Education Division, which helped to inform the National Academies committee. At the time of abstract submission the study was under review and will be published in May, 2019.
