Jet milling is an energy-intensive process which is widely used in several industrial applications. This study investigates the influence of particle properties like particle size, shape and density on particle velocity through batch milling experiments, and Computational Fluid Dynamics and Discrete Particle Modeling (CFD-DPM) simulations. We also look at the effect of volume fraction on the particle velocity due to particle-particle and particle-wall collisions. The results show that the particle size and shape influence the particle velocity, whereas the particle density doesn't play much role. At the highest volume fraction, particle-particle and particle-wall collisions are high. So, the particle velocity will be lower.
In this way, employing batch milling experiments and CFD-DPM simulations, we may get a better understanding about the effect of the particle properties and particle volume fraction on the particle velocity.
