(266a) Teamwork and Teamwork Evaluation Skills

Authors

Cole, J. - Presenter, Northwestern University
Engineering curriculum is interspersed with opportunities for students to engage in teamwork. But often students are placed on teams with no instruction on how to be a successful member of a team. In addition, faculty aren’t often trained on how to observe or evaluate teams. As a result, teamwork is often graded on the final deliverable of the team and not the teamwork skills that students should be developing.

In this talk the presenter will share favorite literature and resources on teamwork and teamwork evaluation skills. Examples of teamwork skills collected from the literature include establishing a team charter or team expectations, using team roles, and countering unproductive behaviors. Tips on observing and evaluating teams will also be shared.
