(339e) Ignacio Grossmann Turning 70 and Still Going Strong

In this presentation, I will talk about my history with Ignacio and the influence he has had on my personal development. When my background in Mathematical Programming needed some updating, I turned to the best person I could find, and Ignacio was gracious enough to let me spend a sabbatical year with him. I was then able to learn about new developments in Mixed-Integer Programming, which have expanded my professional view and helped me carry out some interesting applications. Highlights on two research items that we have carried out together will be covered, one dealing with the synthesis of heat exchanger networks, and the other one with the design of inherently safer processes. In both cases, the collaboration and interaction with Ignacio was specially enriching for me.
