My Wonderful and Random Walk through Polymer Science in
Industry

Having spent nine years at 3M with experience with IBM
prior, I have had the opportunity to work on projects large and
small—successful, unsuccessful, and somewhere in between.  In this talk, I will discuss how my tortuous
path from undergraduate to graduate school followed by two postdocs provided
the foundation upon which I have built my career in industry.  The fundamental polymer science that was
critical to my PhD work is the same fundamental polymer science that I now
apply to industrial problems.  In this
talk, I will focus on those projects based on adhesion science—both at the low
T_g (pressure sensitive) and high T_g (structural)
ranges.  These materials are used in applications
ranging from window film to dental materials to on-demand adhesives.
