(375j) Unit Conversions Meet Google Analytics: Insights into How Chemical Engineers Use Mobile Apps

This presentation will detail highlights of usage of functionality in mobile apps designed by and for chemical engineers as anonymously collected via embedded Google Analytics over a 6+ year span with over 1,000,000 data points. Of particular interest are the categories and pairs of units which are most (and least) often converted, which may offer insights into how engineers study, learn and work. Furthermore, such knowledge can help guide and streamline teaching in Mass & Energy Balance courses, as the data suggest that a somewhat limited set of units and unit conversions are of real and practical interest. Additional data sets and insights relating to chemical properties and other types of routine chemical engineering calculations will also be presented.
