(550d) Everyone Loves Snack! Classroom Experiments You Can Eat

According to the annual curriculum survey, the modal number of laboratories in the Chemical Engineering curriculum is two. The fact that students benefit from hands-on learning and direct observation of principles across the curriculum has us to develop experiments and demonstrations that can be run during the lecture period, in typical classrooms. In such situations, it’s nice to be able to use food as the experimental subject because it is welcome in most classrooms (while chemicals may not be) and, as the title says, everyone loves snack. In this talk, I’ll discuss several classroom-friendly experiments adaptable for a variety of core chemical engineering courses, their learning outcomes, and how to run them.

Some of this work was previously shared by the author in the AIChE EdDiv Webinar series.
