(589e) Large Classes Create Big Data: Grades, Grading, and Grade Spreadsheets

Teaching over 100 students in a single classroom is a daunting task. Managing grades, grading, and grade spreadsheets for large groups is time consuming and requires skills in student, instructor, and file management. Collecting and handing back homework can be effectively digitized using course management systems, such as Blackboard. In addition, keeping grade spreadsheets organized and up to date to allow for just-in-time teaching interventions is possible. Providing a forgiveness factor can reduce anxiety with course readings and auto-graded homework problems. The latest learnings after many years of teaching large classes will be included.
