Free Forum on Engineering Education: First Year and Sophomore Year
Monday, November 11, 2019 - 10:06am to 10:27am
The University of South Carolina Living and Learning Community works to help students succeed in their academic careers. Current initiatives include a professional development course, linked mathematics courses, and local tutoring availability. New initiatives to support student retention will be discussed. These efforts include:
1. Boot camp - A short early move-in option helps students adjust to campus and form social networks while providing mathematics review and professional development information.
2. Additional linked courses - In addition to mathematics, the living and learning community now has implemented linked humanities coursework so that students living together can take courses with other residents.
3. Spring activities - Traditionally, most efforts have focused on acclimation in the Fall semester. New efforts help support students throughout their first year.
