Advancing into Academic Leadership

This two part session will include general information on the types of pathways available for academic leadership- spanning from department chair to provost. General recommendations on the types of service, ways to organize your CV, ways to get recognized, and how to start these conversations will be addressed. In addition, common hurdles and obstacles to advancement will be covered to highlight ways around them. The second part of this session will consist of a panel discussion/round table that will highlight the qualifications needed to advance your career into academic leadership- including specific activities, service, and other roles that aid in successful applications for department chair, dean, provost, or other academic leadership roles. The panelists will emphasize their paths as women and underrepresented minorities on this track to academic leadership.
