Emerging experimental techniques are illuminating the behavior of complex biological systems, including microbial communities and single cells, for the first time. With this knowledge, we can develop quantitative models which predict the performance of these systems and allow forward design for defined phenotypes. This session will focus on new experimental and modeling approaches for analyzing and designing the behavior of microbial communities and single cells. This session is cosponsored by Engineering Fundamentals in Life Sciences (15D/E).
