Malodor, in particular, hydrogen sulfide (H2S) has been reported as one of the major air pollutants produced by anaerobic digestion of organic matter in waste collecting processes such as sewer systems and wastewater treatment plants. In view of this, an innovative product, Liquid Gel (LG), has been developed, it is an active liquid colloidal sol that contains disinfecting and deodorizing compounds. The sol phase of liquid gel transforms into an active micro-gel triggered by temperature, pH, and salt concentration, which traps disinfecting and deodorizing compounds within a gel network. It provides immediate odor control by liquid phase bio-reaction and a sustained release of disinfecting and deodorizing compounds after micro-gel formed that can last for over 48 hours. Additionally, it offers an 80-90% H2S remediation performance over the existing method used in Stonecutter Island Sewage Treatment Work (SCISTW). Liquid gel dosing also requires 80% less chemical amount compared to the existing method, resulting in significant cost savings for the treatment plant. Besides, liquid gel dosing is certified by HOKLAS lab, a non-corrosive to the treatment plant equipment, which can extend the lifespan of the plant's infrastructure and reduce the need for equipment repairs and replacements. With its liquid form, liquid gel dosing is flexible and compatible with the existing equipment in SCISTW, making it an easy and efficient solution for wastewater treatment plant operators. Overall, liquid gel dosing technology provides a reliable, efficient, and sustainable solution for odor control in wastewater treatment plants.
