(121b) Sustainability in Capital Investments

Amgen embarked on our latest and most aggressive Sustainability Plan which we call Amgen’s 2027 Ambition. This plan will deliver carbon neutrality, a 40% reduction in water (from a 2019 baseline), and a 75% reduction in waste disposed (from a 2019 baseline) by the end of year 2027. Amgen’s plan is backed by the Board of Directors, will require over $200 million investment, and relies heavily on enterprise-wide efforts for success. In addition to sustainability driven projects, Amgen has improved our Engineering Project Delivery process to assess all Investment Lifecycle Management capital projects for both sustainability impact and opportunity to introduce sustainability related scope. This ensures all projects justified by other drivers, such as reliability or capacity, consider and support Amgen’s commitment to sustainability.
