Although gas-solid circulating fluidized beds (GSCFB) have been around for over 70 years, liquid-solid circulating fluidized beds (LSCFB) and gas-liquid-solid circulating fluidized beds (GLSCFB) have only got the attention of researchers since the mid-1990s. Compared to the well-studied GSCFB riser, (G)LSCFB has some distinctively different characteristics, such as more uniform axial and radial flow structure, non-obvious cluster structure, a wide range of operable solids holdups, low fluid (liquid and gas) velocity and excellent mass and heat transfer. Through a series of studies in this group since 1996, as well as efforts from several other groups worldwide, fundamental understandings on LSCFB and GLSCFB have been achieved. This talk will provide a general overview on the industrial applications and potential applications of LSCFB and GLSCFB.
