(263a) Duplicating Manufacturing Facilities across Different Continents: Case Study

Increasing business resilience, production volume and global market share have driven many companies to consider investing in the construction of newer production facilities across different geographic regions. Existing chemical plants within the business unit tend to serve as the design basis for the construction of the new facilities essentially saving time on detailed engineering. However, these design bases need to be modified to take into account the new region’s climate impacts, variability in raw materials available, utilities and labor costs and may be subjected to stringent EHS regulations. All these considerations demand proper design modifications. Any deficiencies can have a big impact on reliable production and can truly undermine the economic benefits of the investment.

This goal of this presentation is to share key learnings from unique challenges and operability issues faced when commissioning a new chemical manufacturing facility and discuss the tools and the processes utilized to achieving operation resilience and securing stable production.
