Due to climate change and global warming, there is requirement to mitigate the CO2 emission. The best way is to capture the carbon and utilize it for useful tasks, such as manufacturing, production of gasoline, as refrigerant, etc. Membrane based carbon adsorption is a promising technology which facilitates the selective removal of carbon dioxide from other gases. Ionic liquids based membranes have gathered more attention recently due to their less volatile nature, tuneable structure and high CO2 adsorption capacity. In this presentation we discuss the synthesis and permeation characteristics of the ionic liquid based membranes. With the selection of different ionic liquids and adsorbent combination, the selectivity and permeability can be manipulated.
