Landazuri, A. - Presenter, Universidad San Francisco De Quito
Research Interests

During the poster session case studies will be presented that encompass the concepts of circular engineering and circular economy in topics related to the utilization of lignocellulosic waste in electronic and agricultural applications, environmental remediation, as well as water recovery projects and the utilization of tropical fruits and their waste, whose benefits are investigated in a multidisciplinary context.

Andrea C. Landázuri is a Professor and Researcher at the Department of Chemical Engineering at Universidad San Francisco de Quito USFQ. She is the Co-director and founder of the Applied Circular Engineering and Simulation Research Group, GICAS since 2018. She received a Master's degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Arizona, and in 2016 she obtained a Ph.D. degree in Chemical Engineering with a minor in Environmental Engineering from the same University. Her interests include: the use of green materials subjected to various practical and low-energy transformation processes, such as hydrochars from lignocellulosic residues for environmental remediation and electrical applications (green electronics); computational fluid dynamics (CFD); water, soil and air treatment using green methods; removal of emerging organic contaminants, metals/metalloids, fats, oil and grease (FOG) through various economic technologies and the use of deep eutectic solvents (SEPs); physical and chemical characterization of vegetable species and their residues.

At GICAS, she promotes the sustainable development of processes and products for applications related to: environment, second generation biorefinery, cosmetics, advanced materials, electronics, veterinary, biomedicine, food, among others. She has more than 17 years of experience in scientific research and has more than 30 international publications aimed towards Green Process Engineering through creativity, innovation, multi, inter and transdisciplinary work, supported by practice, modeling and simulation. Andrea promotes and advises Entrepreneurial Projects developed by undergraduate students and promotes Chemical Engineering Education as a key aspect to gather a better understanding of students about this field of study.

She is a board member of the Science Academy of Ecuador, and member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE), the Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) initiative at USFQ, the USFQ Institute of Energy and Materials, the USFQ Biosphere Institute, the USFQ iBioMed Institute, the INSPIRE Ecuador Institute, and a mentor in the I-Corps initiative of the University of South Alabama that promotes undergraduate student innovation and entrepreneurship. She actively collaborates on projects with other national and international universities, as well as with private companies.
