Research Interests

The goal of my research is to contribute to the development of affordable biotherapeutics. My focus lies in investigating effective methods for harnessing various recombinant hosts, cloning methods (site specific vs random integration), and bio-contained organisms to design live biotherapeutics and facilitate biocatalysis for valorization purposes. In my doctoral research, I concentrated on developing strategies for upstream bioprocessing, product recovery, and the characterization of diverse biotherapeutics. During my postdoctoral work, I explored the benefits of biocontainment and bio-catalysis. My multidisciplinary expertise allows me to drive technology-enabled advancements in healthcare. I am deeply passionate about integrating principles from molecular biology, strain engineering, bioprocess engineering, bio-catalysis, and analytical chemistry. These interdisciplinary approaches enable me to gain valuable insights into the following areas of interest: 1. Development of novel upstream process strategies to produce biotherapeutics: This involves designing biosimilars, biobetters, and live biotherapeutics to enhance the affordability and accessibility of healthcare. 2. Advocating for continuous bioprocessing and implementing plant-wide control schemes: I aim to achieve this by utilizing advanced online monitoring tools and concepts, thereby optimizing the efficiency of bioprocesses. 3. Utilizing biocatalysis to upcycle biomass and plastic waste: By exploring the potential of biocatalytic processes, I aim to contribute to environmental sustainability by converting biomass and plastic waste into valuable resources.

Through my research, I aspire to develop safe, effective, and cost-efficient biotherapeutics while simultaneously promoting environmental sustainability through biocatalysis. By addressing these crucial topics, I aim to make significant contributions to both human health and the preservation of our environment.
