(414g) Takeaways from Teaching Machine Learning

In recent years, data science and machine learning methodologies have been finding an increasing use in all science and engineering domains. Thus, there is a need to introduce these topics to the next-generation of scientists and engineers. In this presentation, recent efforts at developing a course focused on machine learning in the School of Chemical Engineering at Oklahoma State University will be described. The presentation will focus on the course content, mode of instruction, class engagement strategies and student feedback. Challenges of teaching such a class from the perspective of someone not trained in the subject will be discussed along with opportunities that exist as the course evolves.
