(422h) A Numerical Simulation of Droplet Coalescence

Droplet coalescence is a common phenomenon in nature and industrial production processes. A deeper understanding of the mechanism of droplet coalescence is of great significance for guiding practical production processes. However, the current understanding of the coalescence mechanism is still limited, and further fundamental research on the mechanism of droplet coalescence is needed. Numerical simulation is an important method for studying the process of droplet coalescence, and the level-set method has unique advantages in computing complex topological changes of interface under the effect of interfacial tension. However, in the numerical simulation studies of droplet coalescence, the traditional single level-set function method may lead to distortion in the flow field. To solve this problem, a double level-set function simulation method is developed to simulate the droplet coalescence process under the static contact condition. This method can effectively solve the problem of flow field distortion, and lays the foundation for further numerical simulation research on droplet coalescence considering interaction forces.
