Mixing is one of the most common unit operations in pharmaceutical industry. In recent years, pharmaceutical industry has shifted from using empirical techniques to numerical methods due to their cost saving and increased level of details in their analysis. A complete three-dimensional in silico analysis of mixing process aids the selection of working conditions and agitator designs. Although in silico modeling is more common in recent years, new and creative designs of mixers require more attention to the CFD models to ensure the validity of results.

In the current work, results of a CFD model using an imPULSE agitator in a mixing tank geometry is presented. The model is assessed in terms of numerical capabilities. The model then applied to a case study to fully replace experimental studies.
