(89a) Trials and Tribulations in Entrepreneurship for a Chemical Engineer

Chemical Engineers are taught that mastering mass and energy balances, and technical breakthroughs are the keys to building a successful venture. But how many successful businesses are based on breakthrough technology and what does successful execution look like? In this talk, Dr. Andrew Jones will discuss what he has learned over the last nine years through the ups and downs of running two technology-centric innovation companies. Dr. Jones started his first company in 2014 focused on making chemical detectors and add-ons for gas and liquid chromatography. He started his second company in 2021 focused on removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and storing it permanently underground as a solid carbon ‘charcoal’.
