Sustainable Process Synthesis, Design, and Intensification

Chair(s)

Tian, Y., West Virginia University

Co-chair(s)

Jiang, Z., Corteva Agriscience

The chemical and energy industries have recognized the importance of sustainability and have been working toward reducing their environmental impact. Significant recent research and implementation activities exist in the circular chemical economy, decarbonization, plastics recycling, electrification, and process intensification, among others. This session invites contributions on process synthesis, design, and intensification to enhance sustainability, including developing or implementing new or existing process design tools, algorithms, and methods to support or enable sustainable process synthesis and design. Sustainability can be identified and realized on different scales of a chemical process design, such as the realization of new reaction routes (new catalysts), the use of innovative solvents, novel reactors, integrated processes (e.g., reactive or hybrid separations) or new (e.g., dynamic) operating modes. Papers on practical implementations, as well as methodological contributions, are equally welcome.
