For several reasons, topside facilities and subsea architectures are often designed, built and operated by groups with different competences and background. In long and complex projects, it is easy to lose the overall functional view and miss opportunities, overlook errors and lose money with overshot and ineffective design. Flow Assurance engineers, with strong focus on deliverability and operability, have a special standpoint to keep the projects on good tracks, especially by putting communication, practicality and technical integrity at the core of our activities. The session will discuss key experiences and lessons learnt where cost effectiveness and optimal functionality of subsea and topside facilities could be (or could have been) achieved by specific Flow Assurance efforts. Among the treated topics are: coherent architecture, appropriate monitoring, focused flexibility, planned troubleshooting and adjustable chemical strategy.
