(134e) European Ethylene Producers' Committee Furnace Emissions Survey

Authors

Initial feedback from various European ethylene producers indicated that it was proving difficult to achieve the NOx targets specified in the latest Best Available Techniques (BAT) documents. Environmental permits for ethylene plant operations throughout the EU must now be based upon BAT. The European Ethylene Producers Committee (EEPC) believed that some of the indicated BAT's could not be considered as proven technologies and that much of the offered technology was still in the development phase. The EEPC therefore established an issue group to address the issues of NOx and dust emissions from ethylene furnaces. The objective of this issue group was to collect as much information as possible on actual emissions from ethylene crackers in Europe and to make an evaluation of the ability of the latest proven technologies to reduce NOx and dust emissions from ethylene furnaces. This resulted in a comprehensive survey and summary.
