RasGas Company Limited (RasGas) operates a major LNG production facility in the state of Qatar. RasGas has made significant use of high quality Process Operator Training Simulators (POTS) since construction of the first LNG Train began in 1997. The primary use is for Distributed Control System (DCS) training of central control room Operators. However, RasGas have captured significant, and unexpected, benefits from faster plant start-up as result of POTS development enabling (a) early identification of some control difficulties, and (b) identification of minor process problems. The paper explains the training use of POTS made by RasGas, and provides examples of these other benefits.
