Microreaction Technology provides well-known benefits such as improved heat and mass transport for the continuous processing of chemical reactions. The precise control and regulation of process parameters in microreaction processes allow an in-depth analysis of mixing sensitive and strong exothermic reactions on basis of Design-of-Experiment (DoE) procedures to identify promising routes for process optimization. Here we report on the implementation of appropriate online spectroscopic techniques such as UV/Vis, Near IR, Mid IR and Raman spectroscopy to microreaction processes for screening and optimization purposes. Suitable optical cells, analytical interfaces and quenching modules have been developed that can be adapted to a microreaction process. If necessary, chemometric techniques can be applied for qualitative and quantitative real-time monitoring of microchemical processes. In combination with experimental design it can help identifying crucial factors of process intensification and speeding up optimization procedure.
