BASF's management has acknowledged the importance of Sustainable Development to long-term business success. This is evident in the company's ?BASF 2015? principles, which include a tenent to ?Ensure sustainable development". For BASF Sustainable Development means being committed to helping meet the needs of society today without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. It also includes an open dialogue within the company, with its business partners and neighbors and with society. The principles of Sustainable Development are important for BASF to operate successfully in a global competitive environment. The economic importance of Sustainable Development is acknowledged by financial markets. To support this vision, BASF believes scientifically-based quantitative tools are necessary, to ensure that new technologies are truly more sustainable. For this reason, the company has developed and implemented a program around Eco-efficiency Analysis and other sustainable development tools. This presentation will include case studies around the use of tools such as Eco-efficiency Analysis, and how these tools have helped to make the case for integrating sustainable development into BASF's business practices.
