The paper will discuss the application of the lessons from physiological fluid flow to ethylene plant furnace coil design. The results show improved mixing, better heat transfer and lower tube wall temperatures. These should also deliver reduced coking and improved run lengths. The novel design is surprising easy to retrofit in existing furnaces and has certain advantages for the mechanical design.
